MMC O&G achieved recognition as one of the best locally managed companies , being one of the winners in the 2003 Enterprise 50 Award Programme and ranked 13th among the 50 winners. The Enterprise 50 Award was inaugurated in 1997 and is jointly organised by Accenture and Small and Medium Industries Development Corp (SMIDEC) which is aimed at promoting the success of local enterprises that are well-positioned for the future. The award provides a platform for Malaysian companies, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to assess their performance and achievement against standards and qualities considered essential for the enterprises to operate successfully in a more globilised environment.
MMC O&G was invited to submit its application in August 2003 for consideration of the award. The following information was provided to the Award Programme panel.
Subsequently, the panel consisting of Accenture and SMIDEC staff came to MMC O&G to perform a review of MMC O&G’s operations, financial performance and management system. MMC O&G management team gave a presentation to the panel on its operations. A few weeks after the review and assessment, MMC O&G received a letter from the organisers confirming that it was one of the winners in the Award Programme.
The presentation of the awards was held at a local hotel on Thursday 23rd Oct 2003. The guest of honour was Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin. The minister said that under the new business practices, Malaysian companies, especially small and medium sized enterprises need to invest in upgrading their information and communication (ICT) technologies. Also at the Award Ceremony was Mr Larry Gan, Accenture country managing director. He said that apart from having solid financial track records, the 2003 winners were forward thinking, very determined and made smart investments in technology to improve their products. MMC O&G was represented by members of its management team including En Shaharel Shafiei (CEO), En Mohd Tahir Masrom (Commercial Manager), En Khairul Muzzamil (Finance Manager), Mr TJ Sow (QA Manager), En Dzulaidin Tasrin Othman (Mechanical Engineering Manager), Puan Sharifah Zaida (Project Manager) and En Izian Zamzuri (HR Executive) at the presentation ceremony.
