Project Details

The project was on a fast track schedule and the detailed engineering part to be completed within four (4) months duration in order to meet the expected first gas date in the first quarter, 2004. Kinarut field is located in Block SB 301 offshore Sabah, approximately 37 km Northwest of the existing Erb West field, and about 100km Northwest of Kota Kinabalu.

Period:
12/2001 – 7/2002
Weight: 8,400MT

MMC Oil & Gas Engineering was awarded by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) the detailed engineering design contract for Kinarut Development Project in December 2001.

The estimated gas reserve is approximately 350 Bscf. A total of four (4) development wells will be drilled from the six (6) slot drilling platform KINDP-A after which gas will be transported to Erb West field for processing.

The Kinarut Development Project involved the installation of a new drilling platform KINDP-A, pipeline connecting KINDP-A and EWP-A, modification and upgrading on existing Erb West facilities and installation of Erb West HP Compressor on EWDP-A. The well fluid from KINDP-A is separated at EWDP-A prior to being dehydrated by combination of new and existing glycol dehydration system at EWDP-A and EWP-A platform.

The design life for the new platform is 25 years. The design water depth is 162 m, which is the deepest for a fixed jacket platform in South East Asia. The estimated weight of the platform is about 8,400 MT inclusive of piles. The jacket load-out weight is 4900MT, the topside lifting weight is 900MT and the Erb West Compressor Module lifting weight is 600MT.

MMC Oil & Gas Kinarut project team was faced with many challenges when executing the work. The tight schedule forced the project team to work around the clock in order to deliver the design packages on time. Many ingenuous solutions were applied to cut short the normal duration.

All drawings were generated using a combination of PDMS, BOCAD and AutoCAD. PDMS was used for the piping design and BOCAD was used for structural design. Special studies undertaken for the project include HAZOP, Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV), Blast Analysis, Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) and Instrument Protective Function (IPF). Noise Study and Independent Detailed Design Assessment (IDDA) were also conducted.

The Approved for Construction (AFC) package for KINDP-A platform and Erb West HP Compressor module was delivered in April 2002. The AFC package for Erb West Modification was issued a month later. 54, 000 man-hours were utilized for the detailed design and a further 1000 man-hours were utilized for Post-AFC and fabrication support work.
